Everything the school talks about on WhatsApp lives in three places now. Inside each one is a stack of groups, and you are only ever added to the ones you ask for.

How this works
A community is a shelf. A group is a conversation.
A WhatsApp community is a container. Joining one does not sign you up for everything inside it — it just puts the groups within reach. Each community has an Announcements channel that only admins can post to, so it stays short and worth reading.
Every group is invite-only and admitted by hand. Tell us which ones you want and someone will add you, usually within a day or two.
César Chávez Dual Spanish Immersion
The main one. Grade cohorts, committees, the all-school conversation, and Español.
CCES Bus Routes
One group per bus, plus aftercare and the Bike Bus. Delays, no-shows, and morning chaos.
CCDSI Advocacy
Budget, technology, family safety, elections. Quiet for weeks, then urgent.

CCDSI General
77 members · the open conversation for the whole school. Lost jumpers, snow-day questions, spare bikes.
CCDSI Español
58 members · for families who would rather talk in Spanish. Same subjects, not a translation of the English group.
Your child’s cohort
Grade chats are run by families, not the PTO. This is where the day-to-day happens — homework questions, birthday parties, who has the field trip form. Groups are named for the year the class finishes high school, so the name survives every promotion.

CCES Bus Routes
One group per route, so a delay on the 159 does not ping ninety families who do not ride it. This is the fastest place to find out where the bus actually is.

CCDSI Advocacy
For families who want to follow the decisions that get made about our school by people who do not work in it. These groups go silent for weeks and then matter enormously for about four days. Pick the subjects you care about rather than joining all of them.

How the names work
Two prefixes and one date rule.
This used to be a mess — the same idea spelled four ways and three different systems for years. It has since been cleaned up, and the rule is short enough to keep.
CCPTO for anything the PTO runs. CCDSI for family-run grade and interest groups. Years are always the high-school graduation year, never the grade.
A group called 1st Grade is wrong every August. Class of 2038 stays right until they walk across a stage.
One-off groups get archived once the thing they were for has happened, so the join list stays short.
House rules
What keeps these usable.
Announcements is announce-only
Everything else is a conversation, but keep it to the group’s subject.
No photos of other people’s children
Not without asking the parent first. This one matters more than the rest.
No canvassing for candidates
We are a 501(c)(3) and these groups carry the school’s name.
Family circumstances stay private
If a household needs help, route it to the committee, not the group chat.
Spanish and English are equal
Post in whichever you prefer. Somebody will help if it needs translating.
Leave what you do not need
Nobody is offended. A quiet phone is the point.
